Assange Assasination – Death of Journalism?
The release of public interest information is under threat like never before..
A look at proposed UK and EU legislation restricting journalism and the Julian Assange case.
The arrest of Julian Assange opens the doors to associate anybody who has any alleged link to wikileaks to be associated with Assange and taken down.
We also look at the new UK government White paper Online Harms which could further restrict the internet and criminalise alternative views.
The American Civil Liberties Union’s (ACLU) Ben Wizner released a statement highlighting the serious danger Assanges prosecution would pose for all journalists.
“Any prosecution by the United States of Mr Assange for WikiLeaks’ publishing operations would be unprecedented and unconstitutional, and would open the door to criminal investigations of other news organisations,” he said.
Prosecuting Assange wouldn’t only endanger non-American journalists. According to Wizner, this attack on press freedom is a two-way street.
